Missisquoi Downs U-32, 5-2

The 4-1 Raiders took their first loss of the season Wednesday night. The Raiders faced the Thunderbirds but came up short, losing 5-2. Missisquoi’s Olivia Thayer had two goals and two assists leading the scoring for the Thunderbirds.

Missisquoi leaded 2-1 after the first period. Olivia Thayer, and Caitlin Fortin had goals for the Thunderbirds, but U-32’s Jordyn Michaud responded with a goal of her own late in the third period.

The Thunderbirds took control in the second period scoring two more goals. Olivia Thayer added another goal as did Alyssa Audet. U-32’s Madison Woodard took a shot to the leg late in the second period; she did not return to the game.

Both Missisquoi and U-32 came out with a lot of intensity in the third period. Missisquoi’s Alyssa Audet scored her second goal of the night and Missisquoi’s fifth of the night. U-32’s Cricket Basa responded with a goal off of a great pass from Jordyn Michaud.

U-32 really dominated the third period, but they couldn’t close the lead. U-32’s Coach Jeff Wuorinen said his team had a lot of intensity throughout the game. “As the game wore on we never let up…. Tonight there was an awesome effort from everyone, I think they really rose to the challenge”.

U-32’s goalie Chloe Sairs ended the game with 10 saves, and Missisquoi’s goalie Hannah Bockus ended the game with a total of 25 saves.

Up to this point the Raiders were undefeated at 4-0, but Coach Wuorinen said this was a good point in the season to see this type of competition. “These are moments that we need to have, especially this early in the season. It was nice to have that kind of challenge, we had a target on our backs and probably going to be like that for the rest of the season”.
